We'll start our journey through the Majors by taking an upclose look at the Fool card . . . its history, symbolism, variations in decks, and possible meanings when it turns up in readings. We'll also practice our reading skills, so bring your deck of choice with you. See you there!

We will go over our Birth cards (Personality/Soul) since we've already looked at our Year Cards for 2009. There's a couple of different systems out there, but you might want to take a look at the Tarot School's info: http://www.tarotscho ol.com/Calculator.ht ml http://www.tarotscho ol.com/BirthCards.ht ml See you there!

Our first anniversary! Happy one-year birthday to us! Let's celebrate by doing a Tarot deck or book swap -- bring any decks or books you are ready to release into someone else's hands. And if you don't have anything you're ready to let go of, then bring ANYTHING for a swap or gift exchange -- something you've made, or cooked, or grown, or found. Just don't spend much money on it. As for a topic, I'd like to focus again on our Year cards, for both 2008 and 2009. The method of calculation can be found in Mary Greer's "Tarot for Your Self." Simply: Add the day and the month of your birth to the current year, 2007 (and again for 2008). Then reduce the resulting number to 22 or less. You always keep the highest number under 23, because there are 22 Major Arcana cards. (22 corresponds to 0, for the Fool.) For example: My birthday is January 7th. So I add 1+7+2008, and I get 2016. Then I add 2+0+1+6 for a total of 9. 9 is the number of the Hermit, so 2008 has been my Hermit year. When I add 1+7+2009, I get 2017, which reduces to 10. 2009 will be my Wheel of Fortune year (#10) -- hmm . . . might be a pretty active year. Make sense? We'll calculate your Year Cards at the meeting if you haven't done it beforehand. We'll be meeting at Lee & Elaine's house this time as most of the old-timers know where it is. Thanks guys!

Holly Voley, our resident expert on Pamela Colman Smith, will reprise the presentation she did at BATS (Bay Area Tarot Symposium) on the Death card through the centuries. Personally I can't wait to see it! Holly and DragonSong will also give us all the skinny on their trip to BATS. Mary Greer posted some great photos on her blog: http://marygreer.wor dpress.com/2008/10/0 6/bats-2008-report/ Visit Holly's website: http://home.comcast. net/~vilex/ We will be meeting at Julie Landy's house. She is looking forward to hosting us. Please RSVP ASAP, as we are limiting the size of this meetup to 15. Blessings!

NOTICE!!! LAST MINUTE CHANGE OF LOCATION!!!! Claire had to cancel the use of the James St. Estates Clubhouse due to a death in the community. WE'RE MEETING AT LEE & ELAINE'S HOUSE INSTEAD!!!!! "How to Read a Card Without Looking It Up in the Book" We're never too experienced (or too new) to practice and refine our reading skills. Even the great Tarot Goddess Rachel Pollack has said that once in awhile she goes completely blank when confronted with a certain card in a reading, even one she has designed herself! I think this is what Holly calls "Instant Tarot Reading"! It's gonna be fun! Remember -- potluck meal and socializing from 6-7 PM, followed by our meeting starting at 7 PM. See you all there!

We'll discuss the Art of Asking Questions (thank you, James Wells!) The clearer and more specific the question, the clearer and more specific the answer. We'll look at some standard questions I've developed over the years, as well as your favorite questions. And we'll talk about taking yes/no questions and turning them into open-ended ones. (Hint: ask How . . . instead of Will . . . or When . . .) See you there! ATTENTION!!!! CHANGE OF VENUE AGAIN!!!!! Claire has reserved the Clubhouse at James Street Estates, where she lives. She says: "It has room, chairs, tables for up to 45 people and a full kitchen for our use. Bathroom's downstairs so that might be a problem for some. Right outside the club house there are about 16 parking spaces maybe 20." Directions: Turn right into James Street Estates to get to the clubhouse. Claire will post a sign for the Card Group. Claire has reserved it from 6 - 10 PM. Potluck meal and socializing from 6-7 PM, followed by our meeting starting at 7 PM. Claire is bringing a chicken curry casserole (white chicken, breasts, over broccoli with a heavy sauce ...) and fruit - paper plates and silver ware. Thanks Claire. See you all there!
