Hello everyone! In September we covered the first 11 cards in the Major Arcana. We went from the Fool through the Wheel of Fortune. At our October Meetup, we will start with Justice and go all the way through the World. As you know, each of these cards depicts a scene, mostly featuring a person or several people, with many symbolic elements. Most decks number each card and provide a name. A whole range of human life and experience is represented in the Major Arcana. These cards symbolize physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of life. They are also used to illustrate the strengths, hopes and fears, and weakest parts of an individual. Sometimes they are positive and sometimes they can be negative or provide a caution to us if we don't do something to change our course of action. Many of the Major Arcana cards show an archetypal figure, or in other words, a figure who is representative of the whole essence of a type of person. Archetypes might include: a warm nurturing mother figure, a strong figure of authority, a formal traditional religious leader, or even a magical, mystical, mysterious person. Archetypes can be representative of real people, whether it be in part or as an abstract symbol in one's life. At this meetup, we will be covering the following cards: Justice, Hanged Man, Death, Temperance, Devil, Tower, Star, Moon, Sun, Judgement, and World. We could spend weeks on each card......however, this class is meant to provide a general overview of the cards. You will then be able to develop the meanings of the cards further as you work with your own deck. As we have recently discussed, Tarot classes of this nature are hard to find in the Houston area ~ and would typically cost at least $25 per class. This information is being provided to you ~ the Houston Tarot Meetup Group at no set cost. As always, a love offering will be collected. If you weren't able to attend last month, don't worry. We will have handouts for you so that you can catch up! We will have a Tarot related door prize too!! Bring your cards, your ideas, thoughts and be ready to learn!

Hello everyone! I know that I was slow in posting what the topic is this month ~ so here it goes?? We will start at 5:30p.m. with "order your own dinner / snacks / appetizers." We will eat, chat and make introductions. Our activity / discussion will begin at approximately 6:00p.m. This month Keri will be giving a presentation on Tarot for Creativity: She will share spreads and tarot-related activities to help inspire creative work or break blocks. Explore new directions for current projects or re-assess project/career goals.
Writers will find plenty of creative character-building or plot development exercises. Artists will explore new perspectives, find inspiration, and perhaps kick-start stalled projects. Presentation will include spread worksheet, and possibly a card meditation exercise. Bring a friend, bring your favorite decks, bring a notebook to take notes??? And ~ did I mention??..lets have FUN!!!! We will have a really cool door prize / giveaway item for some lucky attendee. (We will collect a love offering as you are able to give. This will help cover the cost of keeping our group going, copies, etc.)

Hello everyone! I know that I was slow in posting what the topic is this month ~ so here it goes...... We will start at 5:30p.m. with "order your own dinner / snacks / appetizers." We will eat, chat and make introductions. I'll give a report on my recent trip to New York City for the 2008 Tarot Readers Studio...... Our activity / discussion will begin at approximately 6:00p.m. This month we are going to be discussing and trying out some really cool new spreads. We will do some readings for ourselves and also exchanging readings with each others. Some will be very, very easy that a total beginner can understand and others will be ones that you'll want to remember for future use. Most of these spreads are NOT out of published books. They are unique spreads designed by some of my friends and will be so unbelievably cool for you to learn!! If you are new ~ don't let this scare you off. Even the newest person interested in Tarot can learn something from this meetup!!!! It will be fun, enlightening, and make you think about yourself, your life and where you are at. And ~ some options that you can consider going forward.... Bring a friend, bring your favorite decks, bring a notebook to take notes......... And ~ did I mention........lets have FUN!!!! Hello everyone! I'm looking forward to our April Meetup! Our topic will be: "What Is The Major Arcana ~ An Introduction To Tarot" We will be meeting on the 4th Tuesday of the month back at Jax Grill. Every time I go there, they are asking about our group! And ~ many thanks to Denise & everyone at Body, Mind & Soul for their hospitality in our meetings that we had there on Sunday afternoons. This meetup will start at 5:30p.m. with "order your own dinner / snacks / appetizers." We will eat, chat and make introductions. Our presentation / discussion will begin at approximately 6:00p.m. It doesn't matter if you are new to Tarot.....or a professional reader. This will be a time that you can set aside to take into consideration others thoughts and ideas on Tarot. And ~ will hopefully stimulate some of your own too. And as always, we will take turns exchanging readings for each other if you are interested. Don't let this frighten you away. I have a plan for the complete newbies to do a 1 card reading. This will be easy and we will help you through it... Most of all, this meetup will be FUN!!! Bring a friend, bring your favorite decks, bring a notebook to take notes......... Hello everyone! We will meet from 2p.m. until approx. 4p.m. to discuss the Celtic Cross Tarot Spread and several other fun spreads. It doesn't matter what level of knowledge you have about Tarot. Feel free to join us if you know nothing ~ or if you are a professional. Bring your deck ~ or plan on getting one in the store. Bring any new, unusual or favorite decks to show-n-tell with the group. It is always fun to see the new decks that people bring. Light refreshments will be provided. There will be some type of Tarot give-away as always and we will collect a love offering / donation at the end of the meeting to help cover the cost of the room, copies and for our group. This is a great location and we will have a private & quiet room so that we can focus on our discussion.

Hello Houston Tarot Meetupers!!!!! Happy New Year!! How is everyone????? A New Year is here and we have a New Meetup event at a New location! We will be meeting on Thursday evening January 24th at 5:30p.m. at Body, Mind & Soul Books. We will be in the private room across from the main entrance. The address is 4344 Westheimer on Mid Ln.. In general, this is between the Galleria and Central Market just off of Westheimer ~ north on Mid Ln. It is on Mid Ln. in Westheimer Oaks Village. You'll see the pretty trees and it is on the West side of the street. Here is their phone number: 713-993-0550 if you need further information. Body, Mind & Soul is open until 7p.m. this night and we get a reduced room rate by meeting when they are open. This is the only evening that they are open this late. Lets give this room / location a try and you can let me know how you liked it. And if everyone wants to go back to Tuesday evenings, we can talk about that too. I just wanted somewhere different than Jax since the noise was many times a problem. At this meetup, we will have a door prize as usual. Doug will give a brief update on his recent weekend with Tarot Pioneer Rachel Pollack. At this meetup, we are going to do something very fun!! We will talk about the new year 2008 and your personal Growth Year and Growth Cycle for the year. This was first discovered by Twainhart Hill and made more popular by Angeles Arrien. Upon figuring some numbers together, we will see which card of the Major Arcana is your card for the year. We?ve done this before and it was really fun! And enlightening! We will also talk briefly about 2008 and which Tarot Card will cycle this year. I'll give you a hint ~ it's the "Wheel of Fortune." So ~ we will have a brief discussion about this too as it relates to the year ahead. After all this fun, we will then do a New Years Tarot Spread together that will also give us additional insight into the year ahead. Why don't you come out and begin the New Year with us and by exploring the year ahead with Tarot?!?! There will be other like minded folks there who you can share your thoughts, ideas, techniques with. Or ~ if you want to learn something more about Tarot, this is a great opportunity. Or ~ if you don?t know anything about Tarot, this would be a great meeting to attend! As always, we will collect a love offering as you are able to give at the end. OK - Hot off the press................. At our next meetup, Keri will be leading us in some really fun & exciting Tarot exercises that she learned at the recent Mary K. Greer workshop in Dallas. Some of them involve storytelling with the cards. In others, we will be describing the cards in a variety of ways that will help you learn more about them and better read them when with a querant. The exercises and stories will range from simple, mild to wild and yes......crazy too. This will be a great exercise for total beginners or for people who have been reading for many years.
